Pitfired clay form, 11″ height 5″x 5″ base, Unique design on a stab binding, $180
The tower is designed with an opening running through at an angle. One side is smaller than the other, requiring a book that has different dimension from side to side
The cover paper and the end sheets are Japanese papers.
Each pit fired form displays a different look, not only in shape but in going through the pitfire process. Which makes each piece unique to itself and the book made to accompany it.
The pit fire technique that I’ve developed for my work has each piece lying down on a bed of sawdust so one side usually only gets smoldering grays and blacks.
The cover paper is a wonderful Japanese paper colored red and contains lustrous red fibers. The end papers are similar but in blue.
A stab binding opens as such with the cover bending a full 180 degrees. The paper in this book is beige 20lb. acid free stock.
This is a unique binding design I made for this book of a traditional Japanese style stab binding.
